Utilities, Inc. Chief Operating Officer Lisa Sparrow Appointed to Advisory Council of the EPA

NORTHBROOK, Ill. – May 26, 2009 -- Utilities, Inc. (UI), a national water and wastewater service corporation, is proud and honored to announce that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has invited COO, Lisa Sparrow, to serve as a member of the National Drinking Water Advisory Council (NDWAC). Ms. Sparrow joins the 15-member Council comprised of Special Government Employees that advises the EPA by providing advice, information, and recommendations on matters related to activities, functions, policies, and regulations required by the Safe Drinking Water Act. She is one of fifteen (15) appointees who represent: 1) appropriate State and local agencies concerned with public water supply and public health protection; 2) water-related and other organizations and interest groups having an active interest in public water supply/public health protection; 3) the general public. Larry Schumacher, President and CEO stated “We believe this appointment reflects Lisa’s and UI’s leadership and commitment to safe drinking water and are proud she will be able to contribute to national drinking water issues in a meaningful way”

Lisa Sparrow commented, “I truly believe that safe drinking water is the cornerstone of communities, so I am honored to serve in this capacity. Water quality and infrastructure issues are increasingly recognized and I look forward to being a part of the council and contributing at this important time.”

Ms. Sparrow joined Utilities, Inc. in April 2002 as Director of Corporate Operations and advanced to Vice President of Operations before her current role as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Utilities, Inc., Lisa spent 10 years at BP serving in various capacities including Refinery Engineering, Operations, and Business Development. Prior to BP, she spent 6 years at General Motors in Vehicle Engineering. She received her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University, and a Master’s in Management from Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
