Utilities, Inc. Expands and Upgrades Water Treatment Plant
NORTHBROOK, Ill. – February 9, 2009-- Utilities, Inc., a national water and wastewater service corporation, and its subsidiary Wedgefield Utilities, Inc., (WUI) are pleased to announce the completion of the expansion and upgrade of its water treatment plant in the Wedgefield system in Orlando, FL. Following the completion of these improvements, the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) approved a request to increase WUI’s rates to recover its investment in plant.
“This $3.0 million project doubles the plant’s current capacity while also implementing state-of-the-art water treatment technologies such as Magnetic Ion Exchange (MIEX). WUI has worked hard to contain rates and minimize the effect of rising operating costs and has not had an increase in rates in over 8 years,” said Lisa Sparrow, Chief Operating Officer.
The FPSC approved rates also serve to protect the water supply from being depleted. Water conservation is encouraged by multi-tiered commodity charges requiring the heavy users of water pay a higher share of the cost of service, while those using less water receive the benefit of the smaller share of the rate increase.
