There are currently more then 53,000 community water systems in the United States, over 44,000 of which serve fewer than 3,300 people.
Because these smaller water service providers often lack the financial and technical resources necessary to comply with
regulatory standards, they are roughly two-to-three times more likely to be in violation of Safe Drinking Water Act
